Job Duties:

• Integrate clinical information, morphology, flow cytometry, and cytogenetic molecular findings to deliver final pathologic diagnoses, with annual volume > 1,100 cases.
• Interpret clinical pathology tests, including hemoglobin profile, peripheral blood smear review, urine microscopic examination, and cerebrospinal fluid and other body fluid cytology, with a total annual volume > 5,500 cases.
• Provide after-hours and weekend call coverage for the hematology laboratory and hematopathology patient-related issues (13 weeks/year).
• Serve as an expert hematopathology consultant for Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated hospitals and practices

Priority will be given to applicants with specific lymphoma or hematopathology fellowship training and experience at a major academic cancer centre in the area of lymphoma pathology.

The applicant should also have a demonstrable record in research involving lymphoid cancers with a desire to collaborate with other researchers in the Centre for Lymphoid Cancer and the Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre. Collaborative research with basic scientists, oncologists, and industry is well established at BC Cancer and all members of our medical staff are encouraged to pursue clinical, translational, or fundamental research related to cancer in addition to their service work.

The successful candidate will join a team of three full-time hematopathologists providing a comprehensive diagnostic hematopathology service in one of the largest bone marrow transplantation and lymphoma centres in Canada. Provision of shared on-call responsibilities is a requirement of this position.

The candidate must have Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) certification in hematological pathology OR certification in anatomical or general pathology with RCPSC fellowship training in hematopathology OR American Board of Medical Specialties fellowship training in hematopathology. Job Summary & Responsibilities

Qualifications

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO (USA). The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, invites applicants for a full-time position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, on the clinician educator track, in the Division of Hematopathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology.

The successful candidate will join an established division that provides comprehensive state-of-the-art diagnostic hematopathology services as well as ongoing translational research in hematopathology and related areas. The division’s group of experienced hematopathology faculty members oversees a busy national consultation practice that provides a wealth of stimulating and challenging cases. Division faculty direct laboratories that provide services in the areas of flow cytometry (12-color), molecular diagnostics (including in-house next generation sequencing panels for hematologic malignancies), cytogenetics (including a comprehensive menu of Hematopathology-related fluorescence in situ hybridization probes), and special coagulation. If a successful candidate has formal Molecular Genetic Pathology training, they may take on an active role in the Molecular Diagnostic laboratory and participate in clinical services and instruction of Molecular Genetic Pathology fellows.

Faculty work closely with our Hematopathology fellows in our longstanding ACGME-approved fellowship program, and additionally train residents and teach our medical students. We provide coverage for three community hospitals which have a combined surgical pathology workload of approximately 12,000-12,500 cases, 6500 gynecologic smears, 850 non-gyn cytology cases, and 150 bone marrows. Subspecialty training in Hematopathology or Cytopathology is preferred, but not required.

The prospective candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of routine diagnostic surgical pathology. The work is well rounded with a main emphasis on general surgical pathology including breast and GI. Other areas include gynecologic, liver, and some limited ENT, urologic, and thoracic specimens. All members of our group are involved in the management of laboratories. There is no Neuropath requirement, and all autopsies are sent to the University of Virginia. AP/CP Pathologist

Academic Pathologist or Laboratory Physician in Precision Diagnostics

This recruitment is an important component of the 'Precision Oncology and Clinical Excellence' focus that is a priority theme in the new Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. The recruit would join a vibrant research community and contribute to progress through increasing activity in precision cancer diagnostics, the goal of discovering and testing novel diagnostic strategies, and would facilitate the increasingly sophisticated biological correlative studies that are expected to accompany the highest quality interventional, investigator-initiated clinical trials.

Experience in biomarker identification/quantification, image analysis, computational approaches to pathology diagnostics, or lab automation is required. The Brown University Health Academic Center and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals in Providence, RI is recruiting a Director of the Transfusion Medicine Division. As an academic non-profit medical institution, the successful applicant will also receive an appointment at Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.

The applicant should possess an MD, DO, or MBBS with board certification (or board eligibility) from the American Board of Pathology in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and meet all state licensure and other requirements necessary for the practice of medicine in Rhode Island. Experience in coagulation studies is preferable and subspecialty training in Molecular Diagnostics, Hematopathology, or AP subspecialities is also desirable but not required. Candidates must have experience directing a high-complexity laboratory, preferably in a university hospital or comparable institution. The blood bank laboratory is accredited by the AABB, CAP and the FDA. With a nascent cellular therapy service, the blood bank also aims for future accreditation with the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. The service transfuses greater than 20,000 component products per year. The apheresis service performs approximately 350 procedures per year including red cell/plasma exchanges, and CD34+ stem cell collections for autologous transplant. As additional cellular therapy services such as allogeneic stem cell and CAR-T/CAR-NK transplants will be added to the future list of services experience in this field is highly desirable.

The position will include responsibilities in directing Transfusion Medicine at the system level, including collaborating with blood bank sections at all affiliated hospitals, coordinating the services with other laboratory sections, and working with medical specialists throughout the medical system in addressing institutional needs in transfusion medicine.

The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent research program in the general area of transfusion medicine and blood banking. The candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching Pathology residents, teaching Pathology and Laboratory Medicine courses, supervising clerkships for medical students at Brown University and/or in providing instructional support to the medical technology training programs in the Department of Pathology.

Transfusion and Transplantation Medicine Physician

CALGARY, ALBERTA (CANADA). Alberta Precision Laboratories Ltd. (APL) Transfusion and Transplantation Medicine (TTM) program is seeking a qualified Full-Time Physician to provide provincial support for Cellular Therapy and Transfusion Medicine laboratories. A physician with completion of the Royal College Area of Focused Competency in Transfusion Medicine is preferred but a Hematopathologist, General Pathologist, Clinical Hematologist or Anesthesiologist with training and/or expertise in both transfusion medicine and cellular therapy would be considered. This position will consist of involvement with different APL laboratory sites and TTM initiatives across the province.

The successful candidate will provide medical direction for transfusion and cellular therapy related clinical services, and work closely with clinicians in hematology, oncology, transplantation, neurology, obstetrics, cardiothoracic and trauma surgery. Clinical duties will also include offering medical oversight to technical and regulatory processes and procedures within TTM, including quality assurance, biovigilance, hemovigilance and occurrence management. Part of the role includes the ongoing promotion of safe and effective cellular therapeutics, blood components and plasma protein products in addition to the provision of education for colleagues, allied health professionals and trainees in postgraduate as well as undergraduate training programs.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should have or be eligible for certification as a Hematologist, Anesthesiologist, Hematopathologist or General Pathologist with transfusion medicine certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in addition to a Cellular Therapy fellowship or clinical experience in biomanufacturing and good manufacturing practices (GMP). They must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Physicians must also have current Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage. Candidates must also have a strong interest and/or documented experience in quality improvement and regulatory compliance.

The Flow Cytometry Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) offers a comprehensive test menu encompassing over 60 assays, including immunodeficiency panels, leukemia and lymphoma diagnostics, and specialized platelet and red blood cell testing. Qualifications

Compensation

Co-Director or Associate Director, Hematology Laboratory and Hematopathology

The Departments of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) and Pathology at Boston Children’s Hospital (a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School) are seeking a Hemopathologist to join the faculty as a Co-Director or Associate Director of the Hematology Laboratory in DLM and Medical Director of the flow cytometry laboratory. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience leading a Hematology Laboratory/Hemopathology Service at the Assistant Director, Associate Director, or Director level. This is a joint appointment between the two departments to provide clinical service in laboratory hematology, flow cytometry (DLM) and hemopathology (Pathology). Clinical laboratory expertise in hematology, coagulation and flow cytometry is essential.

A MD, or MD/PhD degree is required. American Board of Pathology certification in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology (or both) as well as subspecialty certification in Hemopathology are necessary.

Candidates for this position must meet criteria for appointment as an Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. Appointment as Co-Director or Associate Director, academic rank, and salary will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and salary will be competitive.

The Hematology-Coagulation laboratory provides state-of-the-art testing in routine and special Hematology and Coagulation. The Flow cytometry laboratory provides diagnostic and research services for hematological malignancies and immunology.

The Hematopathology Service is responsible for approximately 800 bone marrow specimens, 1100 leukemia and lymphoma flow cytometry specimens, 150 lymph node specimens, 100 surgical specimens from other sites, and 200 consultation cases annually. The expected hematopathology service requirement is 10-12 weeks and on call coverage of 13 weekends annually.

Hematopathologist

CLEVELAND, OHIO (USA). The Department of Pathology at The MetroHealth System, a teaching affiliate of Case Western University School of Medicine, is recruiting a full-time Hematopathologist with additional training or experience in some discipline of anatomic pathology or transfusion medicine. The position may also include directorship of the hematology, hematopathology and flow cytometry laboratories contingent on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. This position comes with a faculty appointment at Case Western Reserve University, at a rank commensurate with experience. Compensation is competitive with an excellent benefits package.

The pathology department of the MetroHealth System provides a full range of services to residents of Cuyahoga and neighboring counties. The “safety net” health system has just started a bone marrow transplant program. It is expected that the number of bone marrow biopsies will increase significantly in the next 3-5 years. In addition, a CAR-T lab has been brought up on the MetroHealth campus and will be expected to provide this innovative therapy to patients beginning in 2024. The health system also serves a large minority and immigrant community, including patients with coagulopathies and sickle cell disease. The new pathologist will be expected to contribute to patient care teams addressing the needs of these challenging patients. Participation in resident and medical student teaching, and contribution to clinical or translational research, are expected.
