For this quarter, PathologyOutlines.com listed 388 full or part time pathologist job postings, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 14.5% increase from the 339 jobs posted in the fourth quarter of 2023 (click here). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or nonpathologist positions. Of the 388 postings, 355 listed 1 position, 10 listed 2 positions, 1 listed 3 positions and 22 listed an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 388 ads, 197 (50.8%) were for academic positions and 191 (49.2%) were for nonacademic positions, compared to 48.1% academic positions in the fourth quarter of 2023. We define academic as an assistant, associate or full professor position or a university position other than lecturer or that is solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 43 of 50 states, 5 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Ontario) Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. New York (35), California (34), Florida (27), Texas (20) and Illinois (19) had the most job listings. The 7 states with no job ads were Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. The Canadian provinces not represented were Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan. There was 1 job listed as an optionally remote position in the U.S.

U.S. - South continues to lead in the distribution of job ads for the third quarter in a row.
70.6% of postings required AP or AP / CP board certification / eligibility, compared to 78.5% for the fourth quarter of 2023. 43.0% required AP / CP boards and 7.2% required CP board certification only. 73 postings (18.8%) did not specify board certification. Of these 73 postings, 48 were academic and 25 were nonacademic.
