This key position includes rotation between the Burnham lab and hospital settings. The mix of outpatient and hospital pathology cases include breast, GYN, GU, and GI, as well as cytology (body fluids, urine, GI brushings, etc). General surgical pathologists are preferred. Surgical pathologists with Hematopathology or Cytopathology sub-specialty certification will also be considered. Frozen sections and rapid onsite evaluations (ROSE) should be expected. About the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner
The Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner in Las Vegas, Nevada has an opening for a Medical Examiner/Forensic Pathologist. The office serves Clark County, Nevada, which includes Las Vegas and surrounding urban and rural areas, with a combined population of over 2.9 million people. The office also provides autopsy services to neighbor counties. We are dual accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) and the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME). Our ABMDI-certified investigative staff provides 24/7 coverage, and we have excellent administrative support, a family counselor, and highly skilled and experienced forensic technicians. We currently have six full-time Medical Examiner positions, and enjoy the benefits of locum tenens coverage as well. In 2024 there were 21,020 deaths in Clark County and the office was contacted regarding 9,005 of these deaths, the office assumed jurisdiction for 6,053 cases and performed 4,008 examinations which included 2,134 autopsies or partial autopsies. The office has excellent working relationships with law enforcement, public health, medical facilities, and local medical schools. We have active consultation services with Forensic Neuropathologists, Forensic Anthropologists, Forensic Odontologists, Radiologists and Genetic Testing.
About the Medical Examiner/Forensic Pathologist Position
The successful candidate will perform autopsies, head posts, and external examinations; provide medical records reviews for cases completed as Medical Examiner Sign-outs; conduct pathological and toxicological analyses; confer and coordinate with death investigators and law enforcement; determine the cause of death and the manner of death; write thorough reports effectively conveying his/her/their findings and opinions; have good communication skills in order to discuss cases with family members, law enforcement, and attorneys; and provide court testimony.
Experience and Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements for this position are: Valid license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada at the time of appointment, completion of an anatomic pathology residency in an accredited program, completion of a forensic pathology fellowship in an accredited program, and eligibility or certification in anatomic and in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
