Definition / general
- Mouse monoclonal antibody that recognizes the peripheral alpha-linked N-acetylglucosamine residue present in the carbohydrate moiety of the mucin molecule
- It recognizes mucin derived from the normal gastric mucosal cells (mucosal neck cells and pyloric gland cells) and Brunner gland cells in the gastrointestinal tract of mammals
Uses by pathologists
- Stomach:
- Detect gastric metastasis (Onco Targets Ther 2014;8:91)
- Detect most cutaneous metastases from gastric carcinoma (positive) versus primary sebaceous gland carcinoma (negative, Am J Dermatopathol 2007;29:452)
- Cervix:
- Diagnostic of adenoma malignum (Gynecol Oncol 1999;75:345)
- Positive in gastric type adenocarcinoma (Virchows Arch 2016 Sep;469:351), including HPV negative cases (Methods Mol Biol 2015;1249:213)
Microscopic (histologic) images
Positive stains
- Gastric epithelium
Electron microscopy description
- Cytoplasmic localization
