Definition / general
- Uncommon; two types of melanocytic proliferation in same pigmented lesion (Am J Surg Pathol 1991;15:1111)
- Usually common blue nevus of penetrating type and acquired nevus (Pathology 2004;36:419)
- Rarely includes Spitz nevus, which are difficult to classify by dermoscopy (J Cutan Pathol 2004;31:600)
Terminology
- Also called melanocytic nevus with phenotypic heterogeneity
Epidemiology
- Mean age 30 years
Sites
- Usually trunk, head and neck and upper extremity
Clinical features
- May resemble melanoma, particularly at dermoscopy (Dermatology 2007;214:174, Dermatol Surg 2006;32:1176)
