  • Placenta:
    • Relatively small, mature placenta (285 g, less than third percentile for 38 weeks)
    • Findings consistent with maternal vascular malperfusion:
      • Accelerated villous maturation
      • Increased syncytial knots and perivillous fibrin
      • Multifocal villous infarction
