For this quarter, there were 429 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full or part time Pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 12.3% increase from the 382 job postings in the third quarter of 2023 (click here for the jobs report from 2023 Quarter 3). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-Pathologist positions. Of the 429 postings, 392 were for 1 position, 14 were for 2 positions, 2 were for 3 positions and 21 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 429 ads, 201 (46.9%) were for academic positions and 228 (53.1%) were for non-academic positions, compared with 52.6% academic positions in the third quarter of 2023. We define academic as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position or a University position other than lecturer or solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 46 states, 5 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Saskatchewan) as well as Australia, New Zealand and Saint Kitts & Nevis. New York (52), Pennsylvania (30), Ohio (26), Texas (26), Florida (24) and California (23) had the most job listings. The 4 states with no job ads were Alaska, Delaware, Mississippi, and Wyoming. The Canadian provinces not represented were Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. There was 1 job listed as a remote position in the U.S.

This distribution of positions was comparable to the third quarter of 2023, including the continued increase in positions posted for jobs in Canada.
72.3% of postings required AP or AP / CP board certification / eligibility, similar to the 72.0% for the third quarter of 2023. 41.0% required AP / CP boards and 4.2% required CP board certification only. 81 (18.9%) postings did not specify board certification, which is comparable to 20.2% in the third quarter of 2023. Of these 81 postings, 50 were academic and 31 were non-academic.
