For this quarter, PathologyOutlines.com listed 360 full or part time pathologist job postings, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 1.0% decrease from the 364 jobs posted in the second quarter of 2023 (click here for the 2023 Quarter 2 Jobs Report). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or nonpathologist positions. Of the 360 postings, 323 listed 1 position, 10 listed 2 positions and 27 listed an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 360 ads, 188 (52.2%) were for academic positions and 172 (47.8%) were for non-academic positions, compared with 47.8% academic positions in the second quarter of 2023. We define academic as an assistant, associate or full professor position or a university position other than lecturer or solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 45 states, 5 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Ontario) and New Zealand. New York (30), Texas (26), Massachusetts (23) and Pennsylvania (23) had the most job listings. The 5 states with no job ads were Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island and South Dakota. The Canadian provinces not represented were New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

72.5% of postings required AP or AP / CP board certification / eligibility, compared with 76.1% for the second quarter of 2023. 46.9% required AP / CP boards and 5.6% required CP board certification only. 73 (20.3%) postings did not specify board certification, compared to 17.3% in the second quarter of 2023. Of these 73 postings, 45 were academic and 28 were nonacademic.
