For this quarter, there were 364 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full or part time Pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 1.6% decrease from the 370 job postings in the second quarter of 2022 (click here for the jobs report from 2022 Quarter 2). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-Pathologist positions. Of the 364 postings, 340 were for 1 position, 10 were for 2 positions and 14 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 364 ads, 174 (47.8%) were for academic positions and 190 (52.2%) were for non-academic positions, compared with 47.3% academic positions in the second quarter of 2022. We define academic as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position or a University position other than lecturer or solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 46 states, 4 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan) as well as Puerto Rico, Washington D.C. and Switzerland. New York (38), Florida (31), California (28) and Texas (24) had the most job listings. The 4 states with no job ads were Hawaii, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. The Canadian provinces not represented were Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

The distribution of positions is comparable to the second quarter of 2022 except for the continued increase of jobs in the South over the Northeast for the fourth quarter in a row.
76.1% of postings required AP or AP / CP board certification / eligibility, compared with 73.8% for the second quarter of 2022. 54.1% required AP / CP boards and 4.7% required CP board certification only. 63 (17.3%) postings did not specify board certification, compared with 17.0% in the second quarter of 2022. Of these 63 postings, 38 were academic and 25 were nonacademic.
