For this quarter, there were 417 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full time or part time Pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is the same number of job postings as in the first quarter of 2022 (click here for the jobs report from 2022 Quarter 1). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-Pathologist positions. Of the 417 postings, 387 were for 1 position, 7 were for 2 positions, 1 was for 3 positions and 22 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 417 ads, 223 (53.5%) were for academic positions and 194 (46.5%) were for non-academic positions, compared with 45.1% academic positions in the first quarter of 2022. We define academic as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position or a University position other than lecturer or solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 47 states, the District of Columbia, 5 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan) as well as England / United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand. New York (42), California (30), New Jersey (30), Florida (25) and Texas (24) had the most job listings. The three states with no job ads were Delaware, Mississippi and South Dakota. The Canadian provinces not represented were Manitoba, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia and Quebec. There was 1 job listed as working remotely in the U.S.

This distribution of positions was comparable to the first quarter of 2022 except for a increase in jobs in the South this quarter (25.7% to 30.4%) and drop in the West (18.7% to 15.3%). There was also a decrease in Canadian jobs from 6.7% to 3.4%.
77.0% of postings required AP or AP / CP board certification / eligibility, compared with 75.1% for the first quarter of 2022. 55.4% required AP / CP boards and 5.5% required CP board certification only. 62 (14.9%) of postings did not specify board certification, compared with 18.9% in the first quarter of 2022. Of these 62 postings, 41 were academic and 21 were nonacademic.
