Quarter 3 - 2022 totals
For this quarter, there were 413 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full or part time Pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 10.1% increase from the 375 job postings in the third quarter of 2021 (click here for the jobs report from 2021 Quarter 3). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-Pathologist positions. Of the 413 postings, 389 were for 1 position, 8 were for 2 positions, 2 were for 3 positions and 14 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 413 ads, 219 (53.0%) were for academic positions and 194 (47.0%) were for non-academic positions, compared with 48.0% academic positions in the third quarter of 2021. We define academic as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position or a University position other than lecturer or solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 46 states, the District of Columbia, 7 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Ontario and Quebec). California (42), New York (36), Florida (24) and Texas (22) had the most job listings. The 4 states with no job ads were Alaska, Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming. The Canadian provinces not represented were Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan.

This distribution of positions was comparable to the third quarter of 2021, except for an increase in jobs in the South over the Northeast this quarter.
75.6% of postings required AP or AP / CP board certification / eligibility, compared with 73.8% for the third quarter of 2021. 49.2% required AP / CP boards and 5.1% required CP board certification only. 70 (17.0%) postings did not specify board certification, which is comparable to 16.8% in the third quarter of 2021. Of these 70 postings, 43 were academic and 27 were non-academic.
