For this quarter, there were 417 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full time or part time Pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 56.2% increase from the 267 job postings in the first quarter of 2021 (click here for the jobs report from 2021 Quarter 1). We excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-Pathologist positions. Of the 417 postings, 389 were for 1 position, 10 were for 2 positions, 4 were for 3 positions and 14 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 417 ads, 188 (45.1%) were for academic positions and 229 (54.9%) were for non-academic positions, compared with 51.3.% academic positions in the first quarter of 2021. We define academic as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position or a University position other than lecturer or solely clinical in nature.
Jobs were posted from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 8 provinces in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan) as well as New Zealand. New York (42), California (39), Florida (25), New Jersey (24), Texas (17) and Pennsylvania (17) had the most job listings. The two states with no job ads were New Hampshire and Utah. The Canadian province not represented is New Brunswick.

This distribution of positions was comparable to the first quarter of 2021 except for a drop in jobs in the South this quarter (31.8% to 25.7%).
75.1% of postings required AP or AP/CP board certification / eligibility, compared with 73.8% for the first quarter of 2021. 53.7% required AP/CP boards and 4.8% required CP board certification only. 79 (18.9%) of postings did not specify board certification, compared with 20.2% in the first quarter of 2021. Of these 79 postings, 40 were academic and 39 were nonacademic.
