For this quarter, there were 209 job postings at PathologyOutlines.com for full time or part time Pathologists, which form the basis for the statistics below. This is a 8.9% increase from the 192 job postings in the second quarter of 2018 (click here for 2018 Quarter 2 results). We have excluded postings that were only for locum, Ph.D., residency, fellowship or non-Pathologist positions. Of the 209 postings, 201 were for 1 position, 3 were for 2 positions, 1 was for 3 positions and 4 were for an unspecified number of positions greater than 1.
Of the 209 ads, 67 (34.2%) were for academic positions and 129 (65.8 %) were for non-academic positions, comparable to the figures for the second quarter of 2018 (38.5% academic, 61.5% nonacademic). We define academic as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position at a University.
Jobs were posted from 43 of 50 states, the District of Columbia, 6 provinces in Canada, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. New York had 19 ads, Florida had 18 ads and Texas had 14 ads.

The distribution of positions was comparable to that in the second quarter of 2018.
69.4% of postings required AP or AP/CP board certification / eligibility, a significant decrease from the 78.6% figure for the second quarter of 2018. 45.0% required AP/CP boards and 3.3% required CP board certification only. 23.9% of postings did not specify board certification, compared to only 3.6% in the second quarter of 2018.
Minimum requirements (board certified / board eligible):

For this period, the most common subspecialties / job descriptions listed were Cytopathology, Chief / chair / director and Hematopathology.
