Q. What does a paid listing look like?
A. A paid job listing is highlighted and includes a logo (if provided) and text. We strongly recommend that you keep your ad under 300 words as this is the optimal length to keep candidates' attention. A sample listing is:

Q. How do I post a job ad?
A. Just email the text to Ads@PathologyOutlines.com. Please send the text in a Word document, up to 300 words. We can include your logo if sent as a GIF or JPG attachment with a file size of 25K or less. If you want your ad to be anonymous (i.e. no logo), please tell us. We post within one business day and confirm the posting by email. If you have not heard from us within one business day, it means we did not receive the email or (rarely) that we are out of town without access to the Internet. Once the ad is posted, we will invoice you and give you payment instructions. New advertisers must prepay. You can pay by check, online or by telephoning us your credit card information.

Q. Is there any information I should include within my ad?
A. We recommend that you include specific requirements for the position (board certification [AP/CP, AP, CP, AP or CP] or board eligibility, subspecialty boards, fellowships, years of experience, skills), desired qualifications, the specific number of positions (this is unclear in some ads) and the projected starting date. We also recommend that you state whether this is a J1 or H1 Visa or health professional shortage area opportunity, since some applicants need to know this. We also suggest that you include an email address or a fax number. We recommend that you do NOT require applicants to register online because they don't like doing this and it will reduce your response. If online applications are a requirement of the institution, please confirm that the ad is actually posted on your website and that the website is working. You may also want to provide an email contact for assistance with the online application (since they are often not easy to use).

Q. Why do you recommend limiting the length of my ad to 300 words?
A.In our experience, this is the optimal length to keep job searchers interested and quickly give them the information they are looking for. If the ad is too long, they may not get to the application details and contact information, leading to fewer applications received by you. The longer ads that you may occasionally see usually include legal or salary provisions that are required to be disclosed by the respective state.

Q. What are E-blasts? What types of E-blasts are there?
E-blasts are mass emails, sent out to our subscriber lists. Your banner ad is displayed at the top of one of these E-blasts above our content. Artwork for standard E-blasts should be in JPG, PNG or GIF. The recommended size is 1000 x 800, up to 600K.
  • Image quiz (deploys every 2 weeks): Question for pathologists based on the interpretation of an image showing a specific condition. 11,035 subscribers, sample, Q3 2024 open rate: 33%, CTOR 25%.
  • Biweekly Jobs, Fellowships, Conferences: Links to newly posted Jobs, Fellowships, Conferences and Webinars for pathologists, micro images, plus additional PathOut news. 8,602 subscribers, sample, Q3 2024 open rate: 32%, CTOR 12%.
  • Monthly Update: Current month's news, new books listed and micro images posted on our site, as well as improvements to the PathOut website of interest to our visitors. 8,361 subscribers, sample, Q3 2024 open rate: 38%, CTOR 7%.
  • Case of the Month (premium E-blast, cost - $2,500): Mystery case of interest to pathologists with a short discussion. 11,449 subscribers; also posted on 4 Case of the Month pages, included in accompanying social media posts and retained in case reports for many years, sample, Q3 2024 open rate: 33%, CTOR 17%.

Q. What is a social media post?
Each social media announcement set consists of messages, links, and images shared with our followers on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and LinkedIn and must adhere to their content rules. Social media posts are $1,250 ($1,300 after 1 January 2025) per deployment to 60,272+ followers (as of December 4, 2024):
Q. Are there any ads you DO NOT post?
A. We cannot post ads that violate federal law by discriminating on the basis of age, gender or religion. If your ad requests an "energetic" pathologist, our lawyers have told us this must be changed to "enthusiastic", or something that does not imply a younger age.

Q. How much does a paid job listing cost?
A. The cost for posting a Pathologist or Ph.D. position is $1,000 as of January 1, 2023. This is a flat fee for posting until the position is filled, up to 6 months. Your ad can be for one or more than one position. Renewals of ads that have not yet expired (i.e. that are still posted) with minimal changes are 50% off if prepaid. The cost to post any other type of laboratory position is $550 for up to 6 months.

Q. Do you offer promotional packages for 6 or more pathologist / Ph.D. job listings?
A. Yes. For 6 or more job ads, advertisers who prepay receive one E-blast or social media posting (based on availability), and placement of their name and ads in our organizational section. Please see the blue box on our Jobs page for a list of options. Contact us for additional promotional packages.

Q. How can I get listed in the Organizations section?
A. The section is limited to job advertisers who purchase a package of 6 or more Job ads. Once purchased, the advertiser continues in the section indefinitely.

Q. How long will my ad be posted?
A. Job listings run until the position is filled, up to 6 months. Please contact us by email or phone when the position is filled so that we can remove the ad.

Q. How many visitors does the site have?
A. PathologyOutlines.com is the world's most popular pathology website. We update our statistics monthly, click here.

Q. What kind of response can I expect?
A. Most advertisers for Pathologist positions receive a large number of responses. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had a record number of job ads, and responses may be less since the pool of available pathologists is the same. Part-time positions or positions outside major urban areas may be more difficult to fill but our website has tremendous traffic so pathologists will know about your position. All new job advertisements are also included in our biweekly emails of Pathologist/Ph.D. Jobs or Laboratory (other) Jobs, with 8,602 subscribers. To assist the Pathology community, data from all Pathologist ads is used (in aggregate) in our quarterly Pathologist Jobs Report. Response to non-pathologist ads varies.

Q. Can I make changes to the ad?
A. You should proofread the ad before you send it to us and make sure it includes the content you need. As a courtesy, we allow minor changes in the first week only, but you must tell us what needs to be changed (don't just send us the new ad). After one week, we do not allow changes. If you want to advertise another position or make a major change, including changing specialties or the job title, you have to post a new ad. As a practical matter, most visitors do not look at ads again that they have previously reviewed and will not notice your changes.

Q. I want to remove the ad before the expiration period. Do I get a credit for the balance? Can I re-post it later for no additional charge as long as it is before the expiration date?
A. No. Once the ad is posted, you cannot get a refund. This applies whether you have filled the position or changed your mind about posting the ad. Most of our costs are associated with our rapid posting of the ad. For that reason, we cannot give credits if it does not run for as long as we allow. Once you remove it, we charge full price to put it up again. We do allow you, for no additional charge, to add and remove terms such as "On hold until further notice".

Q. Can I pay by credit card?
A. Yes, you can pay with a credit card via the QuickBooks link on your invoice. You can also telephone (248-646-0325) us your account holder name and address, credit card type, credit card number, expiration date and security code (3 digits for Visa and Mastercard, 4 digits for American Express).

Q. If I want to pay by check or money order, where do I mail it?
A. Our mailing address for checks and correspondence is: PathologyOutlines.com, Inc., 30150 Telegraph Road, Suite 119, Bingham Farms, MI (USA) 48025.

Q. What if I am posting an ad from outside the United States / Canada? How do I pay for the ad?
A. These ads must be prepaid. We accept credit card payments (online or over the phone) or company checks for these ads. Unfortunately, we cannot accept wire transfers.

Q. What other standard provisions should I be aware of when advertising?
A. Please see our standard Terms & Conditions, click here

Q. How do I use combination searches on the Jobs page?
A. The most important search criteria to combine are Location (USA, Remote, Canada, Other are all a single search term) and Subspecialties. Please only click on one Location and one Subspecialty. You can add Organizations and Miscellaneous, but they are usually not that helpful since few of them exist.
Use the Clear all selections button to start over. The default sorting is by Post Date. However, by clicking the Job searches by location link at the top of the page, the results will be sorted by location instead, which is combinable with the above 4 items.

Q. Who can I talk to if I have questions?
A. Please contact our staff at (248) 646-0325 or email us at Ads@PathologyOutlines.com.
