EDMUNDSTON, NEW BRUNSWICK (CANADA).
The Edmundston Regional Hospital, in Edmundston, located in Northwest New Brunswick, at the
borders of Quebec and the United States, is recruiting a full-time Pathologist. The successful applicant
will provide pathology services to the patients of Zone 4. He or she will perform duties with
considerable clinical independence in the professional medical diagnostics on specimens taken during
surgeries, frozen sections, cytology, do some autopsies and provide professional medical opinion and
diagnostics to the medical staff of the zone in order to provide the best medical help to patients. Full
staffing is for three pathologists and the candidate would be the third, joining two current pathologists.
Usual surgical load is 4000 to 5500 specimens a year. The candidate is expected to participate in the
teaching of students, external and residents in medicine.
Overview of the Edmundston Regional Hospital –The Hospital is an acute care facility providing
complex and critical care, surgical and ambulatory care, medical and long-term care, mother/child and
mental health care. This hospital has three hospitals facilities: The Edmundston Regional Hospital (169
beds) the Grand Falls General Hospital (20 beds) and the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Quentin (6 beds) and has a
team nearly 108 physicians, over 1,000 employees, and 80 volunteers and is also affiliated with the
University of Sherbrooke for teaching.
Overview of the Regional Health Authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health
authorities in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in
the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones,
covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and
care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the
community, or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes disease prevention and
health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care, and palliative care. Additional services
provided by hospital facilities include public health, community mental health, addiction, community
health centres, the Extra-Mural Program, and veterans' centres. The Network is also active in the
training and research fields, which helps to keep the staff's skills up to date and plan for succession. For

This is professional medical work performed by certified specialists (those with a specialty certification
as recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NB). Duties are performed with considerable
clinical independence in the diagnosis, care and treatment of medical disorders within the scope of the
specialty in which they are practicing. Clinical care and performance may be subject to supervision and
assessment by the physician's Clinical Department/Division/Service Head and/or Program Director in
which the physicians works. Review of clinical work may also be supervised by the Local and/or Regional
Chiefs of Staff and the Zone's Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician
works in accordance with RHA Bylaws and policies.
The candidate will be remunerated on a salaried model. This may range between a minimum of
$223,288 to a maximum of $271,466 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on
qualifications and experience. In addition, a market adjustment for pathologists of 22.5% will be added
to the above salary. On call remuneration is fee for service.
• Graduate from an approved school of medicine supplemented by post-graduate study in the
area of specialization (Pathology)
• The candidate must have his certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Canada certification (FRCPC) or American Board certification of Pathology in AP/CP or Board
• Specialization or interest in dermatology or other areas of surgical pathology would be an asset.
• The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New
