Transfusion Medicine/Laboratory Medicine Physician

The Department of Pathology is seeking qualified applicants for a faculty position in Transfusion Medicine/Laboratory Medicine. Faculty rank and track will be determined according to the qualifications and interest of the candidate. This position will have responsibilities in the University Hospital Blood and Tissue Banks, including active involvement in patient blood management and safety initiatives, clinician education and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities in clinical apheresis will include LDL pheresis and autologous stem cell collection. The University of New Mexico, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state, specializes in trauma, burns, high-risk obstetrics, cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, autologous stem cell transplantation and neonatal intensive care. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the mission of the Laboratory Medicine division in quality assurance and outreach activities. Teaching and mentoring responsibilities include transfusion medicine fellows, pathology residents, as well as other fellows, residents, medical students, and technologists. The successful applicant will work in cooperation with TriCore Reference Laboratories, a nonprofit organization sponsored by University Hospital and Presbyterian Medical Services, in providing medical oversight for the transfusion service operations. TriCore is one of the largest clinical laboratories in the United States (www.tricore.org).
