Abbreviations

We try to minimize the use of abbreviations.  However, our website chapters do frequently use the following:

 

+ means positive as in keratin+ or "more" as in ages 70+

 

- means negative as in keratin-

 

CNS: central nervous system

 

DD: differential diagnosis (i.e. what other diseases may appear similar)

 

EM: electron microscopy

 

ER: estrogen receptor

 

F: female

 

Gross: macroscopic features (i.e. those visible with the naked eye)

 

HPF: high power microscopic field

 

M: male

 

MF: mitotic figures

 

MFH: malignant fibrous histiocytoma

 

Micro: microscopic features

 

PgR or PR: progesterone receptor

 

RR: relative risk

 

TB: tuberculosis
